The country’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said on Wednesday that it will launch the new avatar of its popular hatchback Maruti Swift by the end of year 2011. The company had displayed this new generation Swift in Hungry in the starting of this year.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift was initially introduced in the Indian market in year 2005, and since than over 5,00,000 lakh units of this car have been sold in the country. Carrying a sporty sub-compact design, the Swift model has been positioned as Suzuki's latest world strategic car.

The company has also said that in a bid to enhance output, it will reorient the manufacturing of Swift and Dzire at its Gurgaon and Manesar plants. As per a statement given by Maruti Suzuki India’s Managing Executive Officer (Production) M M Singh to PTI, "Our plan is to fully shift DZiRE to Gurgaon and Swift to Manesar to enhance productivity. The shifting of assembly of DZiRE will take place by July next year and that of Swift will take place in future.”

The launch of a new generation variant will further strengthen Swift’s position in the Indian market that has been threatened by the launch of a series of compact hatchbacks in last one year. The Swift model is currently fighting to maintain its huge market share with the likes of Ford Figo, Volkwagen Polo, Nissan Micra and Fiat Punto.
