Maruti Suzuki is ready to introduce its brand new upgraded model of Maruti Alto powered with the new K-series 1.0L petrol engine next month. The model currently powers A-Star, Zen Estilo and Wagon R models of Maruti Suzuki. It is capable of producing 66 bhp and 90Nm torque. The model is coming out to compete with Chevrolet Spark claiming to deliver a smoother driving experience with the new generation engine. The new engine is very responsive and is extremely smooth and is said to return about 20 kmpl.
One of the striking pieces of information is that MSIL is not phasing out the 800cc model from the market. The new Maruti Alto model with K-series engine will be available as an option along with the 800cc model that delivers power of 46bhp.
Presently, Maruti Suzuki offers two types of the K-series engines in the Indian market including a 998cc, 3-cylinder engine powering A-Star, Wagon R and Zen Estilo and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder petrol engine powering Maruti Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire.
