Honda has been building a new architecture platform for its future electric vehicles. The Japanese automobile major seems to have built a car on the new platform, the one which is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
While Honda has had EVs in its portfolio, this is the first platform being dedicated for electric vehicles and will form the basis of a range of electric cars from Honda. The EV concept may also reveal Honda’s new design language.
Honda President and CEO, Takahiro Hachigo, said “We will strengthen the development of fuel cell vehicles as well as battery electric vehicles. In addition to a China exclusive model scheduled to go on sale in 2018, a dedicated EV model for other regions is under development. We will introduce this model at an auto show this autumn.”
Honda is targeting about two thirds of its global sales from hybrids and EVs together. Honda had recently established the EV development Division to expedite their product plans. They are also trying to develop fast charging technology along with wireless charging to help improve user experience for EVs.
