While we are still waiting for the facelifted version of the Elantra sedan, Hyundai has started working on the next generation Elantra sedan. According to Korean media, the next generation Elantra saloon will be unveiled in April, 2015. The company has already started testing the sixth generation sedan, and is likely to be larger in size compared to the outgoing model.

The next generation Hyundai Elantra sedan will get the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 Design Philosophy, which we have already seen on the new Elite i20 and Santa Fe SUV. Unlike the current model, the new mode will be sober in styling as it features less curves and creases. The exact engine specifications of the sedan are yet to be revealed; however, rumours suggest that the next model will get an all-electric or hybrid variant.

The current Elantra is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options- the 1.8-litre petrol and 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine. It is expected that the sedan will get an all-new turbo petrol and diesel engine family. We believe that the company might add a larger 2.0-litre diesel engine to its lineup. Both manual and automatic transmission options will continue to be offered.

It is expected that the next generation Hyundai Elantra will feature a more upmarket and loaded interiors. The wheelbase is likely to be increased to offer spacious cabin, specifically for the rear occupants. Hyundai India will launch the facelift version of the current Elantra in mid-2015, while the next-generation model is expected to be launched by the second half of 2016. It will rival against the likes of Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia and others in the segment.
