Toyota Kirloskar Motors will launch the next generation Innova MPV in the country in 2015-16. Expected to be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, the new model will come up with a new range of diesel engines.
Toyota Motors is also focusing on providing automatic versions of its cars in the Indian market. Some media reports suggest that the new Innova with diesel powertrain would also receive an automatic transmission gearbox that is missing in the current lineup. The new diesel engine lineup is said to be more fuel efficient than the current model.
Instead of the moncoque architecture, the 2016 Innova MPV will be based on an all-new ladder-frame chassis. The upcoming model largely resembles to the current car, but it has grown in length. The company is aiming to offer spacious cabin for third row occupants, so expect a longer wheelbase or better seating management.
Not just Innova, TKM is also preparing to launch the automatic variants of the Etios siblings. Both models haven’t lived up to the expectations and with few changes and automatic transmission, the company is aiming to gain more market share in the highly competitive mass market segment. The next-gen Fortuner is also likely to get new six-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
