German premium performance car manufacturer has clarified to the media that it will offer a diesel engine in the new-generation Cayenne. The fresh update comes days after reports indicated that the company will no longer provide diesel engine options. The new-generation Cayenne was showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year. Although plans are limited to new-generation Cayenne, the company might also consider the new powertrain in the Macan as well.
Detlev Von Platen, Porsche sales chief, stated that the importance of diesel powertrain is not too high and only 14 per cent of total cars sold worldwide are diesel. However, Cayenne being a popular selling model for the company, will still GO ahead with its plans for a diesel engine in the new-gen model. The Macan is also expected to be offered in hybrid and battery-electric versions when the next generation arrives in as early as 2021.
