Porsche has revealed that its upcoming track-focussed sportscar 911 GT2 RS will churn out 640bhp. At its heart is the same 3.8-litre straight six engine from the 911 Turbo S, featuring bigger turbos and a water injection system.

While the previous generation 911 GT2 RS delivered 612bhp, the new car will churn out 640bhp and 750Nm of torque. The engine will feature revised internals to help it handle the extra power. It features bigger turbochargers with higher boost pressure, a titanium exhaust system and a water injection system to improve cooling. Power will be sent to the rear wheels through a PDK gearbox. It rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, with ceramic discs providing stopping power.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS makes use of lightweight materials like Gorilla Glass, titanium and carbon fibre, to restrict the weight to ‘under 1450 kilograms’. An optional ‘Weissach pack’ which includes magnesium wheels, titanium roll cage and a carbon fibre roof makes it even lighter. Reports suggest that the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is months away from reaching production stage. It will be launched later this year as a 2018 model.
