General Motors had recently signed a deal with Reva Electric to use their technology to produce an electric car. Now General Motors is ready to put the new electric version of Chevrolet Spark into production which will hit Indian roads sometime in 2010.

Reva Electric is the only electric car company in India and it will collaborate with General Motors to produce Spark’s electric variant. "While Reva will provide the technology, GM will do the engineering and manufacturing of the green cars," said GM India, Vice President, P Balendran.

General Motors recently launched its crossover model Cruze in India in the D-segment. Cruze will come in two variants LT and LTZ priced at Rs. 10.99 lakh onwards. GM India has already received 1500 bookings for the car so far.

General Motor also intends to make India as its export hub and will export 20 percent of its production from Halol (Gujarat) and Talegaon (Maharastra) from 2011 onwards. Both the plants have a combined manufacturing capacity of producing 225,000 units annually. GM India is also setting up a new line with installed capacity of 160,000 units for producing petrol and diesel engines.
