Volkswagen plant in Chakan, Pune, India shall roll out the new small car model in the year 2010. The new plant is spread across 230 acres in Chakan where the company has invested 410 million Euros and shall be available for production by end of 2009.

Volkswagen India President and Managing Director stated that the new model is being designed and developed especially for the Indian car market and shall be launched under the Volkswagen brand. He was present at the launch of new popular model, Volkswagen Jetta, in India. The new small car shall mainly have the local components from India.

On the other hand, Jetta shall be assembled at the Aurangabad plant where Skoda model is presently being built. Auto parts for the Jetta model shall be imported in India from the Mexican Volkswagen plant. Jetta has been present globally since past 29 years and has been one of the most successful models of Volkswagen.

Volkswagen India has witnessed an impressive 69 percent growth in past six months from Jan-Jun 2008. It aims to sells 20,000 units in the present year and has already achieved more than 50 percent of its sales target. Its projected sales for Jetta are 1200 units.
