Bajaj Auto and KTM are planning to launch a new 125cc bike in the Indian market by the year 2011. Bajaj will build the bike at its Chakan plant near Pune and will take at least 12 months to launch the bike commercially in the Indian market. The new bike will be initially launched in the European market by the end of current calendar year.
Bajaj has entered into an agreement with KTM where both the companies will jointly roll out global bikes in India. Bajaj is ready to launch various bikes in India in 125-250cc segment that also have potential in the global markets.
Bajaj-KTM also plans to launch high performance bikes in the Indian markets. KTM Power Sports AG will cater to premium segment while their range of "RE" passenger vehicles will be a standalone brand in the three wheeler space. "From 2012 onwards whatever vehicle we will built would be three generation ahead of us from what we have today. That means not only better interiors but also new set of engines and transmissions as well,” said Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto.
