      New Audi Q5 first look review

      The Q5 has always been an important model for the German automaker Audi. This time around at the Paris Motor Show, Audi unveiled the new generation Q5 SUV to the world. The new model gets new technological, cosmetic and feature upgrades. It will be launched in the international market sometime in 2017 followed by its debut in India.

      In terms of design, the model gets a new single frame grille with a solid frame as a replacement to the older one which came with a vertical stack grille design. The SUV gets Xenon headlights as standard, while LED or high-resolution Matrix LED with dynamic indicators will be provided as an option. The new Audi Q5 weighs about 90kgs lighter than its current generation. As for dimensions, the new model is now bigger than before at a length of 4,660mm, width of 1,890mm and height of 1,660mm.  Its wheelbase runs into 2,820mm and now the car offers more 10-litres luggage space over the older version.

      Under the hood, the new Audi Q5 is offered in one petrol and two diesel engine options. The diesel versions will be powered by 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which generates about 187bhp, 12bhp more than the old Q5 and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine which will generate about 249bhp. The petrol version will get a 2.0-litre petrol engine which generates 249bhp of power. All engines are turbocharged and will come mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The smaller diesel engine will be launched first, while the bigger diesel and petrol engine options will be introduced later. Additionally, the 187bhp diesel version will also get fuel saving Quattro with Ultra Technology four-wheel drive system that activates and deactivates the rear axle depending on power needs.

      The new Audi Q5 will get the Drive Select function with five modes - Comfort, Efficiency, Auto, Dynamic and Individual as standard. Additionally, the the Audi Q5 also gets two new modes - lift/offroad and allroad. The company offers 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, while the S line package offers 19-inch wheels. Moreover, customers can also opt for the optional 21-inch wheels.

      The interiors are more spacious than ever and offers premium upholstery. The SUV gets a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel as standard, while in darkness, the optional ambient lighting creates an attractive atmosphere in 30 different colours. The dashboard sports a high-resolution 12.3-inch screen and the top infotainment system gets an optional MMI navigation plus with MMI touch and an 8.3-inch display.

      Loaded with impressive style and performance features, the new Audi Q5 will be a strong competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLC in India. As for safety it will be loaded with Adaptive cruise control (ACC), Audi pre-sense, park assist, airbags, ABS and much more.
