The prototype seen here was spotted while undergoing cold weather tests in Scandinavia. The new A1 will be available in five-door Sportback guise only. The three-door model will be phased out and all-electric or even plugin-hybrid variant will not be offered either. Only a mild-hybrid will be available for the new A1.

The new A1 will be based on the lighter and stiffer MQ platform and will be given an adaptive chassis. Unlike the current model, all-wheel drive will be available for variants below the high-performance S1. Drivetrain wise, there will be a new 1-litre 3-cylinder base engine and further up the range, a new 2-litre engine with up to 270bhp of power for a possible full-on RS model.

The current Audi A1 competes with the likes Of Mini Cooper, Citroen DS3 and Renault Clio.
