The National Capital Region may stop registering diesel cars if the Nation Green Tribunal has its way. In the midst of the new traffic arrangement for the capital involving odd and even numbered cars, this statement was issued today. They have filed a petition in this regard and have even asked for the Centre and state government to stop using diesel cars in their official fleet.

Reports suggest that petitioner Arvind Gupta has requested CJI TS Thakur, to hear the case and in turn he has responded by saying that all case connected to pollution in the capital (including this) will be taken up on December 15. The petition was originally filed in 2013 and now with enough awareness over the issue in Delhi, it has been raked up again to see the outcome this time around.

The arrival of this news must have surely taken diesel car owners in the capital by surprise as it is believed that car owners as a whole are still trying to wrap their head around the whole odd-even number system that will be implemented from January 1.

In the light that this is still a petition, we hope that sufficient research has gone in to the whole process so that it will not throw normal public life out of order. It is possible that if the petition gets implemented (in whatever form) in Delhi, then other metros may have to follow suit.
