Mark Twain once said, “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.” This famous quote by Twain has been proved right by Fauja Singh, a 101 year-old Indian, who earlier ran a marathon at the age of 92 and now, became a torch bearer for the second time in the London Olympics beginning July 27, 2012. Another such man, though not as old as Fauja Singh but considerably old, Thomas Chacko has made India proud by successfully completing an adventure tour of over 26,500 km in Tata Nano.

Thomas Chacko is a 63-year-old avid motoring enthusiast who drove Tata Motor's groundbreaking vehicle, Tata Nano, covering a distance of over 26,500 km. This Kochi-based adventurer started his nationwide tour in a sunshine yellow Tata Nano from Mumbai on 3rd May 2012. During his 78-day adventure trail, Chacko drove Nano through all states and union territories of India reaching the farthest destinations in all directions. The journey stretched from Tawang in the east to Dwarka in the west and from Kargil in the north to Kanyakumari in the south. He also reached Khardung La and Tanglang La in Ladakh which are the two highest motorable roads in the world. Khardung La is located at an altitude of about 18380 ft above sea level. In his journey, Chacko also covered Nagpur, which the geographical centre of India, and Bhutan, a landlocked nation.

"I chose the Tata Nano for this journey because it is the car that has put India on the world motoring map. It also has very good ground clearance and climbs well. The journey was not a joyride but an expedition to explore the country and know the people. The 78-day all India drive has tested the Nano across some of the most rugged terrains of the country and through all kinds of weather. The car emerged successful in this test of endurance,” said Thomas Chacko while commenting about his adventurous journey.

He further added, “The Nano is a dream project. It is every person's aspiration to own a car and Nano fulfills this dream. In a way, this small wonder has fulfilled my dream to explore India. This journey has indeed been an achievement and a book is very much on the cards. It would perhaps be named Mano et Nano: India to its farthest reaches". Over the years, Chacko has also participated in several motor rallies and adventurous drives.

By successfully concluding such a long trip, Tata Nano has also remarkably proved its robustness and reliability. There are many other rallies and expeditions where it has performed beyond expectations. Now, Tata Motors is determined to encourage more such adventure tours, making customers more acquainted with the car.
