Recent addition to this list of car makers is Renault who is all set to take the market by a storm with its new launch. The much awaited Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from the car maker, Duster, which is touted as a 'Price Warrior' will soon make its way to the Indian Market. It is notable that the car does not compromise on quality even though it is hyped as being the cheapest SUV in the world. As per reports, the car will be launched with a price tag of Rs. 7 lacs to Rs. 9 lacs. It is expected to emerge as a winner in the Indian market with its off-roading capabilities, brilliant styling, strong built and an aggressive price tag.

The French car manufacturer will provide both the diesel and petrol options in its anticipated SUV. Petrol model will be powered by a 1.6 litre unit, which will deliver 103.6 hp and the diesel variant will house 1.5-litre turbocharged common-rail diesel, which is built to deliver 83.9-108 hp at a torque of 250 Nm-275 Nm. This 5-seater car is just a bit smaller than the Mahindra Scorpio.

Duster offers the driver either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). The driver will be able to choose from three driving modes provided by the Nissan all-wheel drive system, which runs 4x4 variants. In Auto mode, to determine the available surface grip, the front/rear torque split is automatically calculated. In the Lock mode, the rear axle is constantly provided with fifty per cent of torque and the 4x2 mode, which offers the highest mileage, the gear shift is locked into 2WD

The latest offering from the company will compete head on with the popular models like Scorpio, MUVs like Xylo and Ertiga, which was launched recently and was a huge hit. Renault-Nissan plant at Orgadam near Chennai will produce the vehicle locally with localisation at a high level to keep a check on the input costs. The cars being manufactured will also be shipped to the European countries like UK.

Renault Duster might have to face serious challenges in India despite being recognised as powerful and value for money. The success of the SUV will also be hindered by limited dealer network of Renault. However, Renault has been working towards this issue and is planning to expand its dealership base to the strength of 100 before the launch of Duster, which is expected to enter India by Diwali.
