Delhi, too, being the national capital has bore the brunt of nature's fury in the past one month with major roads being jammed, leaving commuters stranded for hours. With incessant rainfall, pending flyover projects that had eaten up the road space have also contributed to the bad traffic situation. On this scenario, Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit was quoted as saying “The rains have completely shattered the roads. I had set a deadline of September 30 and ordered all roads to be restored, but unexpected rains as late as early September washed out all the work done."

Meanwhile in Mumbai, rain havoc has left city's drains overflowing and roads filled with water. The heavy showers and winds uprooted several trees, which caused jams on various roads in different parts of the city. Several low lying areas reported water logging and flood issues that lead to a hard time in managing the flow of traffic.

Industry experts are of a view that in this rainy season, it is advisable to travel by public transport and avoid the use of private means. With roads filled with water and mud, there are increased chances that water may leak over in the vehicle and can cause electrical breakdown. Also, during this season, the demand for car and bikes takes a several beating with consumers avoiding vehicle deliveries in monsoon.

For people driving their private vehicles during rainy season, the first and foremost caution is to drive slow and maintain a proper distance with the vehicle in front. On slippery roads, avoid using brakes at times and always try to drive on track of the vehicle ahead. Apart from this, it is advisable to maintain regular checks of the vehicle and always assess the condition of wipers before starting journey in overcast weather.
