Back in 1971, the original DeTomaso Pantera was a stunning looking car. The vehicle had the performance to match with a small block V8 nestled in the middle. Sadly the car went extinct in 1992. And now Ares Design has decided to bring it back to life and is called as the Project Panther. Ares Design owned by ex-Lotus boss, Dany Bahar was founded three years ago and is into properly bespoke, coach-built cars for exacting customers.

Called the Project Panther, the car will be based on the Lamborghini Huracan and will aim to be a modern interpretation of the DeTomaso Pantera. Produced between 1971 and 1992, the Pantera was initially powered by a Ford V8 engine making around 335bhp. The Pantera’s latest avatar will get the mental 5.2-litre V10 from the Huracan giving it more than enough performance.

Design wise, the Panther reflects on the original with proper pop-up headlamps, retro strakes on the back-edge of the window line and a bespoke rear end. And to put it simply, if you liked the original car, you will absolutely love this one. The Project Panther will be built in limited numbers only with deliveries expected to begin in the second half of 2018.
