Mitsubishi Motors has announced an increase in the prices of its popular sports utility vehicle (SUV) - the Pajero Sport in the country. The automatic variant of the SUV is now priced at Rs. 24.98 lakh, while the manual version costs Rs. 25.28 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The reason behind the price hike is the increase in excise duty on the SUVs from 24 per cent to 30 per cent. As a result, the Pajero Sport is now dearer by Rs. 1.43 lakh to Rs. 1.48 lakh for the MT and AT variants, respectively.
Under the hood is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 175bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm with the manual transmission and 350Nm when mated to an automatic gearbox. While the manual version gets the 4 wheel drive system, the automatic gearbox delivers power to the rear wheels of the SUV. The new model is equipped with several comfort features like double-din audio system, new infotainment system that comprises of navigation, reverse parking camera and automatic climate control. Other carmakers that have increased the prices of their line-up are Maruti Suzuki India, Hyundai India, Honda Cars India, Toyota Kirloskar Motors and others.
