Mitsubishi has teased a new high-end coupe SUV that it will unveil as a concept car at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The company has said that it will be a plug-in hybrid SUV based on the company’s existing powertrain technologies.
The teaser image shows a vehicle with a low roofline, heavily flared wheel arches and a large front overhang. Also visible are wrap around tail lamps and a roof spoiler. This vehicle is a part of the company’s SUV only strategy which began around two years ago. It had publicly announced it was dropping other body styles from its line-up and putting focus only on SUVs as a move to fortify its traditional strengths in terms of image.
While the Outlander has existed for a bit now as Mitsubishi’s vehicle in the crossover market, this is a new direction that the automaker is taking in terms of vehicle design. We could expect the production version sometime next year.
As for India, Mitsubishi currently only sells the Pajero Sport and Montero here. But with the growing popularity of crossovers, it is pretty much a ‘never say never’ situation for them bringing this car to India.
