Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the new C 63 AMG Cabriolet at the New York Auto Show. The convertible performance version, based on the new generation C-Class, will be launched later this year and might make its way to India in 2017.

The new convertible is very similar to the hardtop versions of the C63 built at Affalterbach. Under the hood is the new 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 that produces 469bhp and 650Nm in the standard version or 503bhp and 700Nm in the S trim. It uses the same seven-speed transmission and rear-wheel drive, but is marginally slower with reinforcements for structural integrity. The C63 AMG gets to 100kmph in 4.2 seconds, while the more powerful AMG S, takes 4.1 seconds.

The canvas roof folds and takes up part of the boot, which still offers decent 355 litres of space. The inside isn’t too different with ample usage of red for detailing, along with carbonfibre inserts. Mercedes will import this car to India as a CBU and it will carry a price tag higher than that of the C63 coupe, which costs around Rs 1.30 crore.
