German car maker Mercedes Benz revealed its brand new R-class model at the ongoing New York Auto Show. The new 2011 Mercedes R-class model will go on sale in September in the British market this year. There will be two versions available for the UK market both with three-litre V6 turbo diesel engines. One of the models will be the two-wheel drive 190bhp R 300 CDI BlueEfficiency, which is quicker than the previous R 300 CDI but has better combined fuel economy of 14.88 kmpl. The other model is 4WD R 350 CDI L 4Matic, that delivers 265bhp output and attains 0-100 kmph in 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 232 kmph.
The new Mercedes R class gets a completely new front end including wings, bonnet, grille bumper and lights, which makes the model a more akin to the GLK and platform-sharing ML and GL. Mercedes also claims the side profile has 'coupe-like lines' but they are not so prominent in the model. The R350 seats six comfortably and also claim the luggage compartment can be expanded to accommodate 84.2 cubic feet of cargo.
Mercedes has not revealed its final price so far for the UK market.
