      Mercedes India to launch AMG GT by the end of 2015

      Mercedes-Benz India has officially confirmed that it will launch the AMG GT in the Indian market by the end of 2015. Already on sale in global markets, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT will compete against the Jaguar F-Type, Porsche 911 Turbo and Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

      The AMG GT will be based on the shortened version of the SLS AMG platform that claims to be lighter and stiffer than before. This will also aid to its handling and performance. It will take its design inspiration from the Vision Gran Turismo Concept. Powering the AMG GT will be an all-new 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine, which is tuned for two states of power – 456bhp for the AMG GT and 503bhp for AMG GT S.

      Mercedes claims that the engine has optimized throttle response and lower carbon emissions. Paired with a 7-speed dual clutch Gertrag transmission, it can achieve 0-100kmph in 3.9 seconds (AMG GT) and 3.7 seconds (AMG GT S). The car offers five driving modes – Controlled Efficiency, Individual, Sport, Sport Plus, and Race (only on the GT S). The AMG GT is capable to attain a top speed of 310kmph.

      Mercedes might first introduce the Edition One variant that comes equipped with exclusive visual touch, a Buramester audio system, Nappa leather upholstery, Parktronic and Collision Prevention Assist PLUS and Keyless-Go. The car also sports a lift back-style tailgate instead the conventional boot lid that makes more practical.

      The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and AMG GT S are likely to be priced around Rs. 2.0 crore and Rs. 2.25 crore (ex-showroom) respectively.
