Mercedes-Benz India has scheduled launch of its highly anticipated luxury crossover GLA-Class on September 30, 2014. The new GLA crossover will underpin company’s newly developed Modular Front Architecture platform. This is an all new vehicle slated to be inducted in Indian market for the elite audience in the country. Mercedes Benz GLA Class crossover will be introduced as a new entrant in entry level premium crossover segment in domestic market. Sources working closely with the company reveal, that AMG variants of the crossover christened GLAAMG could also follow the suit in 2015. Mercedes Benz India has not hinted about the pricing of the new crossover, however buzz has it that the entry level crossover could be priced between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. In domestic market the vehicles will compete with be pitted against BMW X1 and Audi A3.
The new GLA crossover is likely to be offered in both petrol and diesel guise including a 1.6 litre petrol and a 2.1 litre diesel engine options. Powering petrol variants cold be the 1.6 litre gasoline engine that belts out maximum power of 156 Bhp along with a peak torque of 250 Nm. Diesel range is likely to get 2.1 litre diesel powertrain that churns out towering power output of 135 Bhp and peak torque of 300 Nm. Both the engines are expected to be mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters.
In overseas markets the crossover comes fitted with 18 inch alloy wheels, in the front its gets automatic bi-xenon head lights with LED daytime running lights, auto-on wipers, front and rear parking sensors with active parking assist. Among safety equipments nine airbags other comfort features include satnav, Bluetooth connectivity, with audio streaming, dual-zone climate control, reversing camera, a six-speaker audio system. Mercedes Benz India could also bestow these features in India-spec model.
