Mercedes-Benz has formally unveiled the new SL convertible sports car in the market. There were numerous rumours and speculations relating to this sixth generation of Mercedes-Benz SL in the market which compelled the makers to officially publish its pictures and details. This latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz will be launched in Australia in June 2012.
This latest SL convertible is a two-door, drop-top car with an aggressive look and a sleek body similar to other models of this segment of Mercedes-Benz. The latest SL convertible has a broad front with a long stylish bonnet, while the rear has striking character lines.
Mercedes-Benz SL convertible sports car is fitted with an aluminium body and the weight of this car is around 140 kg lesser than that of the roadster. It is aerodynamically efficient and can achieve very high speeds by burning lesser fuel. The top speed of the car is around 250 kmph even with the roof pulled down. This new convertible from Mercedes-Benz is all about thrill and performance.
The car will initially be launched with two types of engines, which will soon be joined by two AMG versions, a twin turbocharged V8-powered SL63 AMG and a twin-turbocharged V12-powered SL65 AMG.
Among the two engines that will be launched initially, the 3.5 L V6 engine will have maximum power of 300 hp and peak torque of 370 Nm. On the other hand, the 4.7 L V8 engine will be capable of churning out 428 hp of maximum power and 700 Nm torque. Both the engines will be complemented by a smooth 7 speed transmission gearbox.
Both these engines will be able to render excellent performance and will be successful in making the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SL convertible sports car a favourite among auto enthusiasts.
