Mercedes-Benz plans to develop no less than eight new cars based on their updated Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform.

Mercedes-Benz to spawn eight new cars from the new FWD platform

The German carmaker currently has five front-wheel drive models in its portfolio – A-Class, CLA, GLA, B-Class, and CLA Shooting Brake. According to reports, the MFA2 platform will introduce two all-new vehicles while the current ones will be updated. There are no details as of now on which cars will be rocking the new MFA2 front-wheel-drive platform yet, but we could easily guess at the suspected models.

The all new A-Class will spearhead this move and was already been spotted undergoing cold testing a few months ago. It will be followed by A-Class sedan, based on the concept showcased at this year’s Shanghai Motor Show. The four-door sedan is expected to be positioned below the CLA sedan. The A-Class Concept gave us a glimpse into the new design language that will be adopted by the German carmaker. Apart from these two, the A-Class L will also be introduced which will share an extended wheelbase with the new generation B-Class.

A new generation CLA four-door coupe is also expected, followed by the Shooting brake guise. While at it, Mercedes will also update the GLA-Class. The latest addition here will be the GLB-Class, introduced to fill in the void between the GLA and GLC. The GLB has been under development for a year now and was spotted testing as well. The GLB was earlier speculated to be a baby G-Wagon, but recent developments suggest that it might be a compact off-roader based on the Ener-G-Force Concept showcased back in 2012.

All the cars based on the MFA2 platform will sport the new design language from Mercedes-Benz. Powertrain options are expected to be upgraded as well, with power-packed AMG variants to follow later.
