Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the GLC SUV for the Indian market on June 2. A successor to the LHD only GLK-Class model, this is a new segment that the German automaker will be entering in the Indian market.
The car is the SUV variant in the C-Class family of cars and uses the same MRA platform as the sedan. It shares a common appearance and has the same cabin and feature list. It is however, as an SUV, taller and has a longer wheelbase compared to the sedan.
It is expected to be offered in the GLC300 and GLC 250d nomenclature. This means the former gets a four-cylinder petrol unit producing 240bhp and 370Nm of torque while the diesel is the 2.2-litre unit producing 170bhp and 400Nm of torque. Both engines are offered only with a nine-speed AT.
We believe that Mercedes-Benz will price the GLC in the range of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 55 lakh slotting it into a space between the GLA and the GLE. It will rival the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque.
