Mercedes-Benz India, the domestic arm of German auto giant, has planned to introduce its B-Class Sports Tourer on September 18, 2012 in the Indian auto market. The model, which was showcased at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, is anticipated to be the most competitive car in the Indian portfolio of Mercedes-Benz.
Industry experts believe that the upcoming model will be placed in a price range of sub-Rs. 25 lacs, which will enable it to garner a favourable response from the Indian buyers. Presently, the cheapest model offered by Mercedes-Benz in India is C-Class, which is tagged with a price of around Rs. 28 lacs.
Reportedly, the model will be introduced in petrol guise only in the initial stages, which might act as a barrier for its demand in the Indian market; however the launch of diesel version later is also on the cards. It is believed that the petrol model of B-Class Sports Tourer will house a 1.6 litre turbo engine, which is expected to deliver an enthralling performance remaining parallel with the standards of Mercedes-Benz.
With the launch of a new model in the company's Indian portfolio, experts believe that the Mercedes-Benz is in a full swing to grab a decent share in the Indian auto market by outpacing its country cousins, BMW and Audi.
