The new generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be revealed on 2 February 2018 at a special event in Amsterdam. The German carmaker has teased a single image of the car. The hatchback will make its public debut at the Geneva stage.
The new gen A-Class has already appeared on many occasions undergoing testing with a heavy and also some not so heavy camouflage. The Stuttgart-based carmaker revealed a teaser video of the hatchback undergoing final testing a few days back. So we know that the new A-Class will adopt a new design language which was debuted in the new-gen CLS. It will move to a new platform making it roomier and more practical than the outgoing car at the same time shedding some extra weight as well.
The cabin for the new A-Class has been already revealed at the CES earlier this month. The hatchback will receive the large floating display which has directly trickled down the flagship S-Class. So now you have a dual screen stacked atop the dashboard and an all-digital instrument cluster. These screens are available in three versions – two seven-inch (17.78 cm), one seven and one 10.25-inch (26 cm) or with two 10.25-inch displays. Mercedes has also introduced something called MBUX - Mercedes-Benz User Experience in the new infotainment system.
Mercedes-Benz aims to make the new-gen A-Class even more premium. The hatchback will enter into its fourth generation. It has been one of the highest selling models for the Three-pointed Star and hence the carmaker wants to continue the high demand for the hatch with the new generation. The new A will set up a new benchmark for the segment when it arrives.
The new A-Class will also benefit from the Daimler-Renault alliance in terms of powertrain. The turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine derived from the alliance will be present with different states of tune. Apart from that, the newly developed 2.0-litre turbo diesel will also find its way under the hood of the new A-Class. A plug-in hybrid version of the A-Class is also on the cards.
