Mercedes Benz sales grow 40 percent in the period of Jan-Aug 2011

The country’s second largest luxury car maker Mercedes Benz India has registered a sales growth of 40 percent in the January to Aug period of the year 2011. The company managed to sell 4,890 units of its cars in the Indian market during this period as compared to 3,495 units sold in the same period last year.

While speaking to the reporters in Kolkata at the occasion of the launch of the new C-Class sedan in the city, Mercedes-Benz India director (sales & marketing) Debashis Mitra announced that newly launched leasing schemes will lead to more business. He said, "Individual or self leasing will open another channel of marketing for us. So, far corporate leasing generates 70 per cent of corporate sales."

In a bid to grab a major chunk of the luxury car market in the country, Mercedes Benz has decided to mark its debut in the retail car leasing business from the month of September. After ruling the Indian luxury car maker for many years, Mercedes Benz had been replaced from the top car maker’s spot by its arch rival BMW. The company now eyes to regain the top spot with a series of new car launches and expansion of its dealership network in the Indian auto market.

Meanwhile, Mercedes has associated with Formula 1 grand Prix in India that is scheduled to be held from October 28th to 30th.
