Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury car maker, seems set to bet high on the Indian auto market and acquire leadership position by outpacing BMW in the same. The auto company is looking ahead to introduce a lower variant in its M-Class series after the launch of ML350. Mercedes-Benz is looking ahead to launch an economical model, namely ML250 in the Indian auto market on October 10, which will be assembled at the company’s Chakan plant, near Pune. Reportedly, the model will be assembled alongside the S-Class, E-Class and C-Class, which are successfully running in the country.

On the other hand, ML350 was initially showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, which was organised in January this year, and was then launched in the country in the month of May. The model was packed with AMG styling and was brought as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in the country. Owing to this, the price of ML350 was driven to around Rs. 65 lacs, which was against the sentiments of price conscious Indian buyers.

The locally assembled ML250 will not feature AMG package and is anticipated to cost less than almost half of the ML350’s price. With the launch of a new model under Rs. 30 lacs category, the German auto maker is expected to cash on the upcoming festive season of this year.
