Mercedes Benz India, the leading luxury car maker in the Indian auto market, has registered a 12.20 percent increase in its sales during the month of September 2011. The company managed to sell 745 units of its luxury cars during the month, as compared to 664 units sold in the same month last year. The entry level C Class and E Class models remain the major contributor in the company’s total sales during the month.

So far in this year (January to September), Mercedes Benz has managed to sell 5,635 units of its cars in the Indian auto market as compared to 4,159 units sold in the same period last year, registering a sales increase of 35.49 per cent.

Commenting on the company’s performance during the month, Mercedes-Benz Director (Sales and Marketing) Debashis Mitra said, "The launch of the exciting new C-Class and the aggressive launch calendar this festive season has helped us retain the momentum. Overall, we are going good and well on course towards achieving our targets and are bullish on the future."

At present, Mercedes Benz is the second largest luxury car maker in the Indian market, following its arch rival BMW on the top spot. After ruling the Indian market more than a decade, Mercedes Benz India was dethroned by BMW that has been topping the sales charts since last two years.
