The Mercedes-Benz GLS will be launched in India tomorrow at an event in Delhi. This is the flagship SUV of the carmaker, prices of which are expected to start at Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).
The GLS is essentially the facelifted version of the GL-Class and is renamed due to the brand’s updated model nomenclature. The SUV is cosmetically enhanced with new headlamps, revised grille, tweaked bumpers and reworked tail lamps. The cabin is also updated with new features to elevate the premium feel and make the interior more luxurious.
Under the hood of the revamped SUV is a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo diesel mill, which will be offered in two states of tune. In the GLS450 4MATIC, it churns out 362bhp of power, while in the GLS350d 4MATIC, it is tuned to produce 255bhp of power. Both the set-ups come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes-Benz GLS is called the S-Class of SUVs and will be positioned at the top of the carmaker's SUV range. It will replace the GL-Class presently sold in our country and take the luxury quotient a notch higher.
