Mercedes Benz will launch new GL63 AMG in India at a grand event organized in Mumbai tomorrow. This would be the fifth vehicle from the AMG range making its way into the luxury car segment of the domestic market. Company claims new GL63 AMG to be the most premium SUV inducted ever from the auto maker in India. Besides GL63 AMG, other models that are available in AMG version include, C63, G63, E63 and SLK55 from Mercedes Benz.
The all new GL63 AMG is a seven seater premium SUV that has taken most of its styling cues from the GL-Class SUV. AMG quad-tailpipes get chrome glutted accents, interior is roomier and flaunts sport seats, AMG steering wheel and Active Curve Control that allows driver to take corners effortlessly without jerking the vehicle. Mercedes is proffering this feature as standard in the new GL63 AMG.
A robust 5.5 litre V8 biturbo powertrain has been housed under the hood that belts out a maximum power output of 557 Hp along with a top torque of 760 Nm. The vehicle rushes from nil to 100 kmph within 4.6 seconds. A 7G-Tronic AMG automatic transmission is paired with the 5.5 litre V8 motor.
An expected price tag of Rs 1 crore is being speculated for the premium SUV, since the SUV will be available in India as a completely built unit, therefore it will be priced a little higher. However, Mercedes’ GL-Class SUV is assembled in India at the company’s manufacturing unit located in Pune. The premium SUV will rival Porsche Turbo S and Range Rover which are already very popular in luxury SUV segment in India.
