Mercedes has introduced an automated parking service for visitors to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. At the multi-story parking space passengers are allowed to leave the car altogether, which in-turn finds a parking spot on its own.
Mercedes confirmed that this was possible not only with the car’s autonomous capabilities, but also due to the building itself. Having tied up with Bosch, sensors are set up across the premise which monitor the building. When called upon, the system safely guides the car to an assigned parking spot with the help of the car’s autonomous systems.
Gerhard Steiger, Director - chassis systems, Bosch, said, "Parking will be an automated process in the future. By applying an intelligent multi-story car park infrastructure and networking it with vehicles, we have managed to realise driverless parking substantially earlier than planned."
Reports state that this driverless parking system will now undergo significant trials using select cars at this parking space,with the local authorities analysing the details.
