Mercedes Benz CLS AMG Caught Testing

The latest model of the Mercedes CLS63 AMG which is set to foray into the four-door coupe market was spied testing at the Nurburgring. The car will feature the same 6.2L V8 engine as the E63 AMG with 518bhp and 465lb ft of torque connected to the SL63’s Speedshift MCT seven-speed ’box.

The test mule was heavily clad. Nevertheless, quad-exhaust tailpipes protruding from the rear bumper, additional air vents in the bonnet cladding, and large sports brakes behind 19-inch five-spoke wheels were enough tell-tale signs hinting that the new AMG variant will be a high performance model. The new model is expected to take styling cues from the current model maintaining a coupe-like roof line and long sloping bonnet. The new design will also feature a wider track, as indicated by the extended wheel arches seen on previous test mules, and according to insiders its platform will be borrowed from the current S-Class sedan flagship.

The car is set to hit the market during late 2010 or early 2011 and will be positioned as more up-market to bring it in line with some of its more premium rivals.
