Mercedes-Benz, the German luxury auto giant, launched its M-Class in May 2012 with a price tag of Rs. 56.9 lacs. Along with M-Class, the auto maker offered a limited 100 unit edition of its M-Class AMG. Although the latter was relatively pricier than the former, the advanced bookings of limited edition model ensured that all the units were surprisingly sold even before its launch. At the launch of 3rd generation M-Class AMG, the car was offered with a price tag of Rs. 66 lacs. However, the car is now sold for more than Rs. 68 lacs. The addition of limited model contributed to company’s cumulative volume, which stood 3 times to that of 2011.

The car maker brought its M-Class (non AMG model) in India as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits and thereafter assembled it in the country. In June 2012, despite of slowdown in market because of unfavourable fluctuations in fuel prices, Mercedes Benz India registered a growth of 10 per cent, in terms of sales. Analysts believe that such circumstances do not affect the sales of luxury cars, as they mainly target the entry-level passenger cars, which might benefit the German car maker. However, the upward swing in car maker’s sales is mainly driven by the all-new 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class.

The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) boasts of a new design with industry-leading features, which together adds to its appealing nature. New M-Class is mainly dedicated towards a special class of buyers, who demands a perfect blend of power and luxury. In the first month of its launch, the company reported sales of 175 units of its M-Class and the remaining 75 units were dedicated towards the 3rd generation M-Class (non AMG model).
