The C250 CDI model of the Germany based leading luxury car maker Mercedes Benz has received the prestigious Drive Car of the Year award. Besides Mercedes Benz C250 CDI, about 45 other cars were also nominated for this category. The award was attributed to the C250 model’s perfect combination of sublime performance and considerably higher fuel economy. This is the first time when a diesel engine powered car has received Drive Car of the Year award.
All 45 cars nominated in this category were tested on racetracks as well as on roads for over 20,000 km in Victoria. Only 4 out of these 45 cars were selected for the top position that comprises of Mercedes Benz C250 CDI, Ford Focus, Ford Territory SUV and Volkswagen Polo.
While for the under $80,000 luxury category Mercedes Benz C250 CDI received this award, in the over $80,000 luxury category, Audi A6 received the award. Interestingly, both under and over $80,000 category awards given to a diesel run cars, indicating towards increasing demand for diesel run cars in luxury car segment.
