The newest of the convertibles from Mercedes-Benz, the C-Class Cabriolet and the S-Class Cabriolet have been launched in India at Rs 60 lakh and Rs 2.25 crore (both ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Both the cars resemble the sedan version except for exclusion of rear doors and a hard top. The weight has increased slightly in comparison to the regular version as a result of increased rigidity for the topless body shell.
A 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that generates 241bhp and 370Nm of torque powers the C-Cabriolet in C300 variant. It is mated to a 9G-tronic automatic gearbox. The C300 meanwhile has a handsome claimed 0–100kmph time of 6.7 seconds. The top speed though is electronically restricted to 250kmph. A 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 442bhp of power and 700Nm of torque powers the S-Cabriolet based on the S500. The S500 too gets the 9G-tronic gearbox, but it has blistering 0–100kmph time of just 4.6 seconds. The top speed for the S500 is electronically restricted to 250kmph as well.
The three-layer constructed fabric roof in the C300 is capable of opening/closing in about 24 seconds while traveling at speeds of up to 50kmph. Whereas, the roof in S500 is capable of opening/closing in just about 20 seconds at similar speeds. The new C-Cabriolet completes Mercedes-Benz’s list of open top four-seaters which feature classic soft tops, while the S-Class Cabriolet comes forth as the sixth variant in the S-Class line up after 1971.
Along with premium interior upholstery and convenience features, the new Mercedes-Benz convertibles also come loaded with safety features like airbags, Pre-SAFE, ASR, ESP, BAS, hill start assist, electric parking brake and more.
