Higher excise duty has affected all major carmakers in India. This time around, its the popular German luxury carmaker Mercedes Benz would be the latest one to announce the price hike of about 4% that would be effective from 22nd January, 2015. The excise duty in the country has been hiked owing to withdrawal of concessions by the Central government.
Speaking more on the occasion Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said: “The excise duty cut was of much relief to the automotive sector in general and luxury cars, in particular. However, the end of excise benefit left us with no option but to pass on the additional cost to our customers. Despite the price hike, the company would work to make it easier for customers to buy its products through financial solutions from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. One of the new highlight offerings will be the unmatched interest rate of 9.99 per cent for new generation cars customers.”
Currently, in the AMG range, Mercedes Benz sells the CLA 45 AMG for about Rs.68.5 lakh, whereas the G63 AMG priced upward at about Rs.1.8 crore. This month, the German carmaker shall also usher-in the latest one CLA-Class in the domestic market.
