Mercedes has divided its cars into four groups including Core model series, 4-door coupe, off-road and Roadsters. The naming structure for the core models such as A, B, C, E and S Class remains unchanged. Just like the core models, the company retains the same structure for the 4-door coupes including CLA and CLS.

Based on the C-Class sedan, the GLK Class now gets new name- the GLC. However, the company’s latest entrant- the GLA Class, which is based on the A-Class, continues with the same name. Interestingly, the ML and GL will be named as the GLE and GLS class respectively. The new naming for ML and GL suggest that both cars are closely related to the E-Class and S-Class.

The iconic G-Class/G-Wagon's name remains unchanged. Moreover, the company revealed that the upcoming SUV with a coupe like body will be named the GLE Coupe. Its roadster, the SLK is now named as the SLC. Adding to it, the company has also changed the naming of fuel-variant. Its diesel model, for example E-Class with the 3.0L V6 unit is known as the E350 CDI, will be named as E 350 d from the beginning of the next year. On the other hand, the company will use small letters- c, e, f and h for Natural Gas, Plug-in Hybrid, fuel cell and hybrid variants, respectively.
