      Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show

      Detroit saw the unveiling of the sixth addition to the AMG GT family is the GT C Coupe. The hard-top variant of the GT C Roadster, the GT C Coupe slots in between the GT S and the hardcore GT R. The Coupe took the stage at the ongoing Detroit Motor Show beside the updated GT and GT S line-up.

      Founded in 1967, Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017. To mark the celebration, 50 coupes and 50 convertibles will be built in the Edition 50 moniker. First of which will be the GT C Coupe, available exclusively as special ‘Edition 50’ model to begin with.

      Special to the Edition 50 is matte finish called Graphite Grey Magno, a dash of black chrome exterior highlights, trim strips in the side grilles air inlets, and mouldings on the rear diffuser and exhaust pipes. The cross-spoke AMG-spec alloy wheels complete the Edition 50, badge of which is adorned at the rear. The GT C-Coupe has the distinctive AMG Panamericana grille and is 57mm wider than the standard car. It even weighs 35kg less than the Roadster. Various tech from the bonkers GT R like the active air management system, AMG Ride Control sports suspension and active rear-axle steering are borrowed in the GT C Coupe.

      On the inside, the cabin is done in a contrasting black and silver Nappa leather with black chrome highlights all around. The AMG Performance steering wheel is wrapped in grey Dinamica microfiber and has an AMG Edition’ lettering on its bezel. Under the long hood of the GT C is the same 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine as the Roadster, which pumps out a whopping 450bhp and 690Nm of torque. The 0-100kmph sprint is comes up in 3.7seconds with a top speed of 317kmph.

      The updated Mercedes-AMG line-up, on the other hand, gets a slight power increase and little tweaks all around. The range gets new options and packages as well such as Interior Night package, AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package, and the interesting AMG Track Pack. All the AMG GT’s now sports the Panamericana grille, an advanced aerodynamic system from GT R and some visual upgrades. The standard GT gets a power bump of 13bhp and 30Nm, thus now makes 469bhp and 630Nm. whereas the GT S gets a power surge from 503bhp to 515bhp, with peak torque rising by 20Nm to 670Nm. However, performance figures remains the same.
