Mazda’s showstopper for the ongoing New York Motor Show is the new MX-5 RF. With ‘RF’ that stands for retractable fastback, this latest version comes with fastback design complete with a roofline that slopes down to the rear.
The electrically powered roof can be operated at speeds of up to 10kmph. The roof itself stows away compactly and offers the same boot space as the soft-top model. Also like the soft-top, the new version will be available in Europe with a choice of two revvy petrol engines – a 1.5 and a 2-litre, mated either to 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic.
Now although Mazda hasn’t revealed how much this RF version weighs, we will get to know that and the rest of the details closer to the car’s launch. When launched, the MX-5 RF will join the existing MX-5 range which marks a major improvement over the old model thanks to lightweight underpinnings as well as efficient engine options.
