Maserati may have made it late to the SUV space, but the brand has definitely not wasted any time to plan for a more performance oriented model of the Levante.

Maserati considers building a more powerful Levante

Though Maserati is yet to confirm the details, the general manager for Europe, Giulio Pastore, has hinted that a retuned version of the 3.8-litre engine from the Quattroporte GTS would be ideal to propel the more powerful Levante. This biturbo eight-cylinder powerplant, capable of making 523bhp and 710Nm of torque in its current form, would be accomplished enough to let the Levante gain the ‘GTS’ suffix.

Presently, the most powerful Levante S version can despatch the 0-100kmph run in 5.2sec and the Levante GTS (if made a reality) should ideally do the same run in less than five seconds, before going on to clock a higher top-end speed. As of now Maserati isn’t interested in offering a Levante coupe or creating a smaller version of the Levante as they believe that role would better fit an Alfa Romeo.

Stay tuned to CarTrade for details on the more powerful Levante.
