Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest carmaker in the country, will soon be launching its much awaited Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV) – Ertiga – in the Indian market. This is the same car which was earlier code named as RIII. The revelation of the new name of this Maruti MPV took place when the latest spy pictures of the model captured carrying the Ertiga badge.

The Maruti Ertiga was first shown as a concept at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2010, where it proved showstopper at the Maruti’s platform. The car is expected to be launched in the price segment of Rs 7 to 10 lakh, where it will be competing with the likes of Toyota Innova and Mahindra Scorpio.

The company has left no stone unturned in making sure that the Ertiga proves to be the best family car in its segment. In a bid to provide additional inside space, the wheelbase has been stretched to 2740mm which is about 380mm more than the Ritz hatchback. With this, the Ertiga carries a higher roof to provide additional head and shoulder room to the passengers. The additional wheelbase that has been offered with third row stretches the total length of the car to 4265 mm.

While the front designing of the car looks somewhat similar to the same of Ritz, the interiors bear substantial similarities with respect to design and styling with the recently launched Maruti Swift.
