      Marutis Manesar plant union leader Sonu Gujjar resigns Maruti with payout of Rs 40 lakh

      Just a few weeks following the end of a series of strikes at the Maruti’s Manesar plant, the worker’s union leader has quietly resigned from the company, taking a payout of several lakhs. The move of the erstwhile union leader has left many of its one-time comrades angry and dazed.

      People familiar with the matter have said that 30 suspended workers at the Maruti’s Manesar plant including two leaders Sonu Gujjar and Shiv Kumar have quit the Maruti Suzuki pocketing payouts in the range of worth Rs 16 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. Both Sonu Gujjar and Shiv Kumar left the organization on 22nd October, following the full and final settlement of around Rs 40 lakh each. The remaining 28 workers have left the firm within the period of last 10 days following the end of the strike on October 19th.

      According to a statement given by Maruti Suzuki spokesman to ET on Thursday, all of the 30 suspended workers have resigned from the organization taking their full and final settlement from the company.

      Moreover, a suspended worker said to ET that, he had resigned on Wednesday with a check of Rs 16 lakh. He added, "At the time of the (strike) settlement, thirty of us had decided, we would stick together whatever the consequences may be. When Sonu and Shiv resigned despite our reservations, we also followed suit." Both of the union leaders are unreachable, leaving many of the erstwhile striking workers angry.
