Maruti Omni is one of the most popular school children ferrying vehicles in the country, at present. Being the country's first Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV), the Omni has been a big seller for Maruti Suzuki in the Indian passenger car market. Introduced in the year 1985, the MUV has easily been the most versatile models offered to domestic audience and is used for a variety of purposes ranging from a family car, small goods carrier and ambulance amongst others.

The Maruti Suzuki Omni has an immensely successful history in its kitty, but the car is obsolete and lacks content on numerous other grounds, at present. For instance, the car has no crumple zone and absolutely no security detailing at the front. The lightweight design is another serious drawback, which raises questions on Maruti Omni's grip and traction on roads. Further, the vehicle is known to topple over easily when overloaded.

The best features of Maruti Suzuki Omni are its seating capacity, interior space management and the availability of dual fuel petrol - LPG model. The versatile MUV comes fitted with a 786 cc, 3-cylinder, 4 stroke cycle, 4 valve in-line engine that churns out a peak power output of 32.8 bhp and a maximum torque of 57 Nm. The mileage of Maruti Suzuki Omni stands at 14.7 kmpl, which is quite average. Evidently, Omni is not the best fuel efficient vehicle in the country and emission standards of the engine are average as well.

Coming to the security features installed in Omni, the van features nothing apart from seat belts and side impact beams. Taking into account the parameters of a school children ferrying vehicle, use of Omni van raises a lot many questions. However, If the van is used without overpopulating the cabin (maximum 8 children) it is less prone to fatal accidents.
