2011 was a year of struggles for Maruti Suzuki where labour unrest and slowdown in the economy proved fatal for the company's position and image in the Indian market. However, its plans for the upcoming Auto Expo seem to uplift the company to an extent that regaining lost grounds could be a possible outcome.
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to bring its Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV), Ertiga at the mega event. The MPV is likely to be pitched against Toyota Innova that has been dominating the segment from a long time now. The company is confident of earning laurels using Ertiga, which also happens to be Maruti's debut in the utility vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki has also decided to introduce a few concepts for 2012 Auto Expo.
As a matter of fact, the Ertiga is an upgraded version of Suzuki Jimmy. India's largest car maker will also showcase the Swift Sport that is likely to be a three-door version of the flagship model. The new version will be backed by the power of a VVT 1.6-litre petrol engine that is capable of churning out 136 hp of maximum power. A manual six-speed transmission will also be a part of Swift Sport.
The Swift Sport would carry a sportier design with HID headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts at the back and a body kit that befits the theme of the car. Maruti Suzuki will not stop at this as the popular hatchback would be getting another revision in the form of Swift EV Hybrid Concept, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Show during November 2011. The same variant will be displayed at the Maruti's stall during the Auto Expo this year. The Hybrid will be equipped with a standard petrol engine that collaborates with an electric motor. The EV Hybrid Concept is likely to hit the Indian roads in near future.
Maruti Suzuki will be arriving at the Auto Expo with a host of enticing models that is expected to give tough competition to others in the Indian auto market.
