Maruti is ready to launch its new multi-purpose vehicle code named as “O2” by October this year. The new MPV is being built on Versa platform and is still in its initial stages of design and development. The new model will roll out from Maruti’s Gurgaon plant at Manesar. There is no official word from the company and the spokesperson refuses to divulge the details, specifications or the price of the new upcoming model.

The new MPV model from Maruti will compete with Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo, Chevrolet Tavera, and the new upcoming crossover model Tata Indicruz. The UV market is currently dominated by Toyota Innova but Maruti expects to take over this segment with its new model. Its main targeted customers are e.g. the BPO sector that constantly needs to ferry their employees from work to home and back. The new model will be slated as people’s carrier designed with maximum comfort and suitable design.

Currently, the MUV segment constitutes nearly one-third of the UV segment and Maruti intends to mark its stronger presence in this segment. MSIL is currently India's largest car manufacturer and sells every second car in the country.
