Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest car maker in the country, is eying to add CNG variants of Maruti portfolio models which are currently available in either petrol or diesel versions in the Indian market. It is to be mentioned here that Maruti already sells 5 of its portfolio car models in environment–friendly CNG variants including small cars like Maruti Alto, Wagon R and Estillo, multi purpose vehicle Maruti Eeco, and mid size sedan SX4.

In a statement given in the firm’s sustainability report for year 2010-11, Mr. R C Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chairman, said, "The five models with CNG option launched by Maruti Suzuki have been received well by customers in areas where the fuel is available. We plan to launch more vehicles with the CNG option."

While elaborating the need of government backing in making CNG variants a success, Mr. Bhargava said, "Government support is required to make CNG available across the country. Adequate CNG needs to be allocated for automotive use."

Though the company hasn’t revealed the names of the cars to which it is planning to launch in CNG variants in the country, but it has been widely speculated that the company’s fleet of CNG cars will soon be having some new members like Maruti A Star, Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire.
