The Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki, which has a strong hold in the volume driven mass segment, is all set to launch two all new sub 800CC segment small cars in the Indian market in coming years. The company will be showcasing these models at the upcoming Delhi International Auto Expo in the month of January 2012, where it will be analyzing the response of car enthusiasts and visiting car lovers. These small cars are already in operation in the Suzuki’s base market Japan.

The new Maruti small cars that have been named as Palette and MR Wagon will be powered by parent Suzuki’s smallest 660CC petrol engine unit. The Maruti Alto is currently the best selling cars of Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market, carrying a price tag of Rs 2.96 lakh. The car is expected to be priced higher as compared to its existing cheapest portfolio model Alto.

The small cars will be a major competitor to the world’s cheapest car Tata Nano which carries a starting price tag of Rs 1.53 lakh and carries a 624CC petrol engine at its heart.

The unconfirmed media reports claim that the production versions of either one or both of these small cars will be rolled-out in the Indian market by year 2013-14.

The launch of these cars will further strengthen the position of Maruti in the India passenger cars segment, where it already accounts for a market share of over 50 percent.
